History

Waffian peninsula

Around the year 11.000 BP, the Waffian peninsula was inhabited by many primitive tribes. These tribes initially had difficulty surviving in the harsh, mountainous area that was this land, but the discovery of agriculture and later herding allowed these tribes to grow tremendously. So much, in fact, that the tribes started wars over the parts of land. Naturally, the strongest tribes prospered as the weakest tribes were vanquished. Only the strongest fifteen tribes remained after hundreds of years of continuous bloodshed. By now, the tribes had evolved into true nations.

Around the year 3.000 BP, the fifteen remaining nations were still in a continuous state of conflict, but this came to an end when a series of terrible earthquakes hit the mainland, followed by a tsunami that destroyed the entire north coast. With the farmlands destroyed, famine ensued, and the war became too costly to continue. One leader, Bikkelbil, gathered the leaders of the nations and proposed a peace treaty. The peace proved to be extremely useful: Cities were rebuilt, trade routes established, and universities opened. This marked the start of the First Golden Era. In this era, many explorers would discover the world and settle freely, creating new nations that still exist today, such as Homskili and Dolantis.

In 2.738 BP, Waffia Bikkelbil, leader of the largest nation at that time, was assassinated by the insane leader Glarnzal Upska. As Bikkelbil was a highly respected leader, the other thirteen nations came together, and declared war on Upska under the collective name of Waffia. This started the First Waffian-Upskian War, a war that lasted only a single month and resulted in the total destruction of Upska; only its capital city, Aureliaska, was spared.

After this war, the fourteen nations founded the Federal Republic of Waffia, leaving the remains of Upska to govern itself.

Politics

As of 1 January 532 AP, Borkbal Smeklap is the Prime Minister of Waffia, the de facto head of government. Fimmi Grebbel represents Waffia in the World Assembly, and Efemena Sopi is the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Relations with Upska

Relations between Waffia and Upska are complicated. The two nations have officially been at war since the assassination of Waffia Bikkelbil in 2.738 BP, but there have been no military conflicts since the founding of the Free Land of Waffia in 0 AP. At the same time, the two nations are symbiotic. On one hand, the Waffian government condemns the totalitarian rule of the Upska lineage, but depends on Upska's defence forces to ensure its sovereignty because it does not have its own army. On the other hand, Waffia is a major supplier for the enormous Upskian black market, providing food, medicine, and clothing. While the Upskian government denies the existence of the black market, the Waffian government argues that its supplies are necessary to prevent the outbreak of mass famine and pandemics.
